The stomach-churning violence, terror and disappearances at the hands of masked ICE agents being LIVED daily by millions of Latinos nationwide and broadcast daily into the homes and cell phones of the American People will turn independent voters and Latino voters decisively against the Republican Party for 2026 & 2028. And, for a generation beyond - if not longer. Texas will turn blue in 2026, and potentially STAY blue for the next 20 years. Most other state will see a similar shift.

The implications will be profound - long reaching. Game changing. Easily: statehood for DC and Puerto Rico as well as - God willing - national health care, all are well within reach once the legislative majorities are achieved. And, an expansion of the Supreme Court, if not a LOWERING of the numbers of constituents per house reps, meaning a GROWTH in their numbers. ACTUAL representation. At around 800,000 per rep now they are representatives in name only in most cases.

However, our grief and shame in having to resolve the crimes of these unbridled storm troopers will be a period of national introspection unlike any other we’ve been through save, briefly, all too briefly, at the flash extinguished by the systemic crushing of Reconstruction - and the century’s worth of suffering it added to centuries that preceded it. Now, today’s ongoing obscenity - the shaved heads, the sundered families, the zip-tied children held at gunpoint…these, when held finally to public trial in states across the land, will be a pall that will shock the psyche for centuries.

But, I feel that the “reactionary mind” which typifies all opposition, in either direction - but here, in our case, to the right - that this reactionary mind will FINALLY be quelled into silence by simply being able to say, “That’s what the Trumpists said, too.”

In some sense I feel like the visceral reaction one has to hearing the names, “Pinochet,” “Stroessner,” or “Fujimori” will attach the same here - enough opprobrium and shame to make obvious the fallacy of the phrase, “That’s a Commie plot!” which has all but paralyzed America since the advent of Limbaugh and the plague of Fox, and all it’s downstream re-packagers now online.

Sure - do we say the same about schools? Or, the Coast Guard? Or, the interstate highway system?

But, still - the great moral collapse that has loosed these forces on to the streets.

Again, Texas will be blue, and likely stay that way for many years to come. But, rarely has a country - much less with so many hard fought struggles to ensure the dignity of all mankind - rarely has such a country chosen again to let loose an unchecked army of racial vigilantes into its midst. Our once hallowed ocean edged land of expanding civil liberties. The beacon dims. The cost, the cost…
